By trusting them, we could be getting Kaoru killed instead. And either way he's gonna lose a limb. Is that really the decision you wanna make?

It could, but the note feels spontaneous enough. Someone who wishes to disguise as trustworthy is more likely to ask us to trust them, not state the other way around...
